Atopic dermatitis (AD), or eczema, is a chronic, inflammatory skin disease that usually begins in early childhood. In almost 20% of patients, the disease persists into adulthood. The main symptoms are severe itching and dry skin. The basis of AD treatment is a combination of daily emollient therapy with anti-inflammatory agents.
