Muscle and joint pain can affect people of any age. In young people, it is usually caused by intense physical exertion (e.g. soreness), injuries or infection (e.g. cold, flu, COVID-19), while in the elderly it is often associated with degenerative diseases. Treatment of muscle and joint pain depends on the cause and often requires regular rehabilitation. Pharmacological treatment is largely based on non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
