Good morning, I have been taking Seronil for several years in different dosages. For about 2 weeks, the doctor recommended me to take 50mg. In addition, for 5 days I take Trittico CR - 50 mg. Is it possible to develop serotonin syndrome at such doses, or is it unlikely at such doses? I would like to add that I take medication for eating disorders and anxiety. Thank you for your reply!

For Seronil, for depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder, the recommended dose is 20 mg, but - if necessary - it can be increased, up to a maximum of 60 mg per day. In the diagnosis of bulimia (mental voracity), the recommended dose is 60 mg per day. Ultimately, the size of the dose used is decided by the doctor. 50 mg is not a low dose, but it is also not the maximum dose used. The dosage of Trittico CR also depends on the case, it can be modified starting from lower doses to up to 300 mg per day in divided doses. The dose of 50 mg is therefore rather low. For both drugs, a possible interaction between fluoxetine and trazodone is described, due to its effect on serotonin levels. The interaction concerns the possibility of exacerbating the side effects of trazodone and other side effects such as serotonin syndrome. Serotonin syndrome is a rare complication, but it is not possible to clearly determine what the risk is in your case. This is assessed by the doctor who prescribes both products at the same time. Some sources highlight the benefits of combining these drugs with careful monitoring of the patient. When taking Seronil and Trittico CR, you should strictly follow your doctor's instructions and pay attention to disturbing symptoms.
