I am 51 years old and after 4 months of using Cerazette, I often have spotting instead of bleeding. Is this normal?

Howdy. I am 51 years old and after repeated bleeding cycles my doctor recommended waxes. After 4 months of taking it I no longer had bleeding but very often I have spotting. Is this normal? Thank you

The use of Cerazette (desogestrel) can lead to irregular bleeding, including spotting, which is quite common among women taking this preparation. After the first months of use, many patients experience a reduction or complete cessation of bleeding, but spotting may occur that is not considered to be of concern as long as it is not excessively heavy or prolonged.

Irregular bleeding, including spotting, is one of the possible side effects of Cerazette and does not affect the contraceptive efficacy of the drug. In the event that the spotting is very heavy or lasts longer than usual, it is recommended that you contact your doctor for further evaluation.

If you have any further doubts, it is worth consulting your attending physician. If you are unable to consult your doctor, you can use the teleconsultation here:
